Getting started

What's included free

The free plan in full: the content audit, your Actions list, the performance report, one AI-visibility snapshot and one free post, with the conditions.

Last checked against the product on

Blog AI has a free plan, not a time-limited trial. You can sign in, connect your site and Google, and use the parts below for as long as you like, with no card. This article lists everything that's free, the exact conditions on the two one-off extras, and what needs a plan.

Free for as long as you use it

These work on the free plan with no credits and no end date:

  • The content audit. Every published post gets findings (losing traffic, short, no Google description, no internal links and more) and one recommended action. You can export it as CSV or print it to PDF. See Your content audit.
  • Your list of actions. The ranked list of what's worth doing next (the top three on Home, all of them on the Actions page): posts close to page one of Google, posts losing traffic, posts few people click, and searches you appear for but have no post about, each with an estimate of the extra clicks. See Home and Actions.
  • The performance report. Clicks, times shown in Google, click rate, average Google rank and visits from search, for your whole site and each post, compared with the period before, over the last 3 months. See Reading your performance report.
  • Importing your posts and pages, setting your writing voice, and editing posts.
  • Publishing and scheduling posts to your site. Publishing never costs credits.

On the free plan you can have 1 site.

Posts you publish on the free plan end with a small credit line, "Produced in partnership with Blog AI". Where your platform allows it, "Blog AI" links to our site with a nofollow link. On a paid plan it's off unless you turn it on in Settings, and choosing a plan removes it from each post the next time you update it.

One free AI-visibility snapshot

Blog AI asks Claude up to 5 questions your customers might ask, and shows whether the answers mention your business or cite your pages, and which other sites they cite instead.

The conditions:

  • Google Search Console must be connected and have finished its first sync. The questions are built from the searches that already find your site. For a newer site with few searches, Blog AI writes them from your own post and page titles instead.
  • Once per account, and once per Search Console property. A property is the site you verified in Search Console. A second account can't run another free snapshot for the same site.
  • It asks Claude and no other assistant. Weekly tracking on a plan asks more questions, every week; see Track how AI assistants answer about you.
  • If the check fails part-way (for example if the AI service is down), you can try again, up to 3 attempts in total.

The snapshot usually starts on its own after your first Search Console sync. If it didn't, use Check how AI assistants see you on the AI visibility page.

One free post

One researched, fact-checked post in your voice, worth 3 credits. The conditions:

  1. Google Search Console is connected and has finished its first sync. How much data it found doesn't matter, only that the sync finished.
  2. Your writing voice is set, either learned from your posts or described in your own words.
  3. You haven't had a paid plan before. The free post is for new accounts; past customers have had credits with their plan.
  4. Once per account, and once per Search Console property. If another account already used the free post for the same Search Console property, it isn't available again.

When the conditions are met, Home shows Write this one free on your top opportunity, with the option to name your own topic instead. Write your first post walks through it.

The free credits can only be spent on that post. If writing fails on our side, the credits go back to your balance and you can use them for anything, including writing the post again from Ideas.

What needs a plan

  • More posts, ideas, images, refreshes and merges. These use credits. A plan gives you a monthly allowance; you can also buy top-ups. See Understanding credits.
  • Weekly AI-visibility tracking of your own questions.
  • More than 1 site.
  • More than 3 months of Google history. On the free plan Blog AI keeps the last 3 months of Search Console and Analytics data. A plan loads the 16 months Search Console keeps, then keeps going: Google deletes anything older than 16 months, but Blog AI keeps your monthly totals for up to 5 years. See Reading your performance report. If you leave a plan, all of it is kept for 30 days, then trimmed to the last 3 months.

Credits you earn without a plan, for example from a referral, can be spent on your site without a plan. Weekly AI-visibility tracking still needs one.

How long the free plan lasts

There's no time limit. We may change or end free features in future with notice, as the terms of service say.

Common questions

Why do I need to connect Google for the free post?

The free post is written for your top opportunity: a search people already use to find you, where a post could win more clicks. That comes from Search Console. It's also how we make sure each site gets one free post, rather than one per email address.

I connected Google but the free post still says to wait

Search Console's first sync can take a few minutes, sometimes longer for a big site. The card on Home says Your Search Console data is syncing until it's done.

Can I use the free post on a different site?

It's one per account. If you have several sites, pick the one you care most about before you click.
