Tell Blog AI what your site is for

Fill in About this site: what your business does, who it is for and what the blog should achieve, so ideas, posts and refreshes follow it.

Your voice profile tells Blog AI how to write. About this site tells it what to write about: what the business does, who the site is for and what the blog should achieve. Without it, Blog AI goes by your search data alone, and search data can point the wrong way. A site that changed direction still gets found for its old topics, so ideas and refreshes keep pulling it back there.

It's optional and free, and it takes a few minutes.

Fill it in

  1. Open the Sites page. Go to Sites and find your site's card. If you haven't filled it in yet, the About this site section is open and highlighted, above Writing style and voice.
  2. Get a first draft (optional), either way:
    • Prompt for your AI copies a short prompt to paste into the AI assistant you already use, which often knows your business best. Paste its answer into the box below the prompt and click Fill in the form. Nothing is saved yet.
    • Draft it for me: Blog AI reads your homepage and the titles of the posts and pages you've imported, and fills in a first version. Nothing is saved yet. If there's nothing to draft from, import your posts and pages first, or write it yourself.
  3. Answer the questions in your own words. Edit the draft until it's right:
    • What is this site about now? What the business does or offers.
    • Who is it for? Your readers and customers, as specifically as you can.
    • What should it achieve? For example, enquiries, bookings, sign-ups or sales.
    • Topics to focus on, and Topics to stay away from (optional).
  4. Say if the site used to be about something else. Tick This site used to be about something else, describe what it was about before and, if you know it, since when.
  5. Click Save. The section folds down to a one-line summary. Click Edit to change it at any time.

What it changes

Once it's saved, Blog AI uses it in:

  • Post ideas: ideas fit what your business does now.
  • New posts, refreshes and rewrites: written for your readers and towards your goal.
  • Better title & description in Google: titles and descriptions that say what you offer.
  • Suggested image scenes and the questions asked of AI assistants on the AI visibility page.
  • Each post's diagnosis: a post that isn't about what your business does is marked Not about what your business does. See Why isn't this performing?

Blog AI also checks your Search Console searches against it. Searches that have nothing to do with your business now (often left over from an old direction) are left out of your ideas, the Actions page, the content audit and refreshes. Your reports and charts still show all your traffic.

If your site changed direction

Tell Blog AI what the site used to be about. Searches and old posts about that are then treated as history, not direction: they stop driving ideas and suggestions. Old posts that are off-topic now get a diagnosis suggesting you redirect them to your closest page about what you offer, rewrite them towards your business, or leave them up if they still bring visitors. Blog AI never deletes or redirects anything on your site itself.

Common questions

Do I have to fill it in?

No. Without it, Blog AI works as before, from your search data and your voice. It's most useful when your site has changed direction, or when your searches include a lot that has nothing to do with what you sell.

Does it cost credits?

No. Writing, drafting and saving it are free.

I run several sites. Does each need one?

Yes. Each site has its own About this site, just as it has its own voice profile.

How is this different from my voice?

Your voice is how you write: tone, rhythm, spelling, phrases to avoid. About this site is what the site is for. Blog AI uses both. See Set your writing voice.
