Blog AI vs a freelance writer
Hiring a freelance writer is the classic way to keep a blog going without writing it yourself. A good one is worth a lot. This page is honest about what a writer does better, what Blog AI does that most writers don’t, and how people combine them.
We don’t quote freelance rates: they vary too widely for one number to be fair.
The short answer
Choose a freelance writer if…
- Your field needs real expertise or credentials the writer has and a model doesn’t.
- Posts need interviews, original research or first-hand experience.
- You want a person to own the whole piece, including judgement calls.
- You’ve found a writer you trust and the budget works.
Choose Blog AI if…
- You want topics chosen from your Search Console data, not only from a brief.
- You want every cited claim checked against its source before publishing.
- You want posts published to your site and measured, without extra handovers.
- You want a steady rhythm of posts and refreshes you can start and stop monthly.
Side by side
As of 29 September 2026. Where a row describes the other option, the sources are listed under the table.
| What you need | A freelance writer | Blog AI |
|---|---|---|
| Choosing topics | Usually from your brief. Some writers do keyword research; ask. | Ranked from your own Search Console data, with the numbers behind each. |
| Expertise | Can be excellent, if the writer knows your field. | Research from public web sources. Your own expertise is added by you in the editor. |
| Sources and fact-checking | Depends on the writer’s process. | Sources cited inline; each checked; unsupported statistics block publishing. |
| Your voice | A good writer learns it over a few posts. | Learned from 3 or more of your posts, used for every post, and editable. |
| Turnaround | Agreed with the writer; often days. | A draft in minutes, then your review. |
| Publishing | You or the writer paste it into your CMS, unless they have access to it. | Published or scheduled to WordPress or Strapi with SEO fields, image and categories. |
| Measuring and refreshing | Rarely included. | Per-post charts, a weekly email when there’s news, and refreshes for posts that slip. |
| Cost | Per post, per word or per hour; get quotes. | 3 credits per post; plans from $49 a month. |
Sources (checked 29 September 2026)
Using both
Many small businesses and agencies don’t choose. A workable split is: Blog AI finds the topic, does the research and the first draft with its sources checked; the writer (or you) adds expertise, examples and opinion; Blog AI publishes, measures and flags the post when it needs a refresh.
That keeps the writer’s time on the part where they’re better than any tool, and keeps the repetitive parts off their invoice. See Blog AI for agencies and for small businesses.
Questions people ask
How does the cost compare?
Freelance rates vary too much by country, niche and experience for a fair single number, so ask two or three writers for a quote per post. Blog AI charges 3 credits for a researched, fact-checked post; the pricing page shows what that means on each plan. Remember to count your own time on both sides: briefing and reviewing a writer, or reviewing and adding to a Blog AI draft.
Will a Blog AI post be as good as a freelancer's?
A skilled writer with real knowledge of your field will write things Blog AI can't, like first-hand experience and interviews. Blog AI is consistent, cites its sources and checks them, and starts from your search data. What you add in the editor closes much of the gap.
Can my freelancer work in Blog AI?
Today an account belongs to one Google login, so there are no separate writer seats. Many people have Blog AI produce the researched draft, then send it to their writer to add expertise before publishing from Blog AI.
My writer uses AI tools anyway. What's the difference?
Ask them how they check sources. Blog AI's check is built in and blocks publishing a statistic its source doesn't support; with a writer, it depends on their process.
