Google Analytics 4

What readers did after the click

Search Console tells you who saw your post in Google and who clicked. Google Analytics 4 (GA4) tells you what they did next: whether they stayed, read and did something useful. Blog AI reads both, read-only, and shows them together for every post.

Connecting GA4 is optional. It takes a minute if you already use it.

What Blog AI reads

For each page, per day, and only for visits from organic search (people who arrived from a search engine’s unpaid results), going back 16 months on a paid plan (3 on the free plan):

MetricWhat it tells you
SessionsVisits that started on the page from organic search.
Engaged sessionsVisits GA4 counts as engaged: they lasted more than a few seconds, viewed more than one page, or triggered a key event.
Engagement timeHow long the page was actually in front of the reader.
Key eventsThe actions you marked as important in GA4 (formerly called conversions), such as a form sent or a purchase.
Page viewsUsed to compare how posts do in their first week.

The permission Blog AI asks for is read-only (analytics.readonly). It can’t change your property, tags, audiences or settings.

Where you see it

On every post

A post’s performance card shows sessions and engaged sessions next to its Search Console clicks and impressions, with markers for the days you published or refreshed it. For each marker, it compares the 28 days before with the 28 days after, so you can see whether a refresh helped.

On the performance report

The site report shows visits and engagement for the period you pick, compared with the period before, and splits your traffic between posts Blog AI wrote or refreshed and everything else. See performance tracking.

In content scores

Each post gets a content score built from several parts: visibility and search coverage from Search Console, and traffic, engagement and key events from GA4. A part with no data is left out rather than counted as zero, so a site without GA4 still gets fair scores.

Connect GA4

  1. Step 1: Connect Google from the Sites page

Click Connect Google on your site and leave Google Analytics ticked on the consent screen. If you connected Search Console earlier without Analytics, connect again and tick it.

  2. Step 2: Pick your GA4 property

Blog AI lists the GA4 properties the account can see. When a property has a web data stream for your site's address, it's marked as suggested. Nothing is saved until you click Save.

  3. Step 3: Save and sync

Blog AI fetches recent days first and then fills in older history in the background. Visits appear on each post's performance card and on the performance report.

Good to know

Search Console and GA4 each report on their own schedule, and Search Console is usually a couple of days behind. Blog AI shows a “data through” date for each, and a “last 28 days” view ends on each source’s own latest day rather than mixing complete and incomplete days.

Visits are matched to posts by the landing page address, ignoring http or https, www and a trailing slash. If a post moved address, its history follows it once the new address is on the post.

Your Google access is stored in an encrypted vault. How Blog AI uses Google data is set out in our privacy policy.

What it doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t count visits from social, email, ads or direct traffic in a post’s numbers.
  • It doesn’t install tracking code or change your GA4 setup.
  • It doesn’t read user-level or personal data about your visitors.
  • It doesn’t attribute sales or revenue to posts beyond the key events GA4 reports.

What it costs

Nothing. Connecting GA4, syncing and the performance report are part of the free plan. See what you get free and pricing.

Questions about Google Analytics

Do I need Google Analytics to use Blog AI?

No. Search Console is the one Google connection Blog AI needs: it drives the Actions list, the audit and the free post. Google Analytics adds what happened after the click. Without it, charts and scores use Search Console clicks instead of visits.

Does it work with the old Universal Analytics?

No. Blog AI reads Google Analytics 4 properties only. Google stopped processing Universal Analytics data in 2023.

Does Blog AI add tracking code to my site?

No. Blog AI reads reports from the GA4 property you already have. It doesn't install scripts, change your tags or add anything to your pages.

Does Blog AI see who my visitors are?

No. It reads aggregated report numbers per page and day (sessions, engaged sessions, key events, engagement time and page views). It doesn't read user-level data, and GA4 doesn't provide it through reports.

Why are my visit numbers lower than in Google Analytics?

Blog AI counts organic search visits only (GA4's Organic Search channel), because it measures what your posts do in search. Visits from social, email, ads or direct links are left out.

I picked the wrong property. Can I change it?

Yes, on the Sites page. Blog AI deletes the data from the old property and syncs the new one, so a post's chart never mixes two properties.
